INSULATED GLASS

WHAT IS IT?

INSULATED GLASS COMMONLY CONSISTS OF TWO (SOMETIMES MORE) PANES OF GLASS, SEPARATED BY A SPACER MATERIAL, & SEALED TOGETHER AT THE EDGE. THE INSULATING AIRSPACE IS FILLED WITH AIR OR A NOBLE GAS, SUCH AS ARGON OR KRYPTON INSIDE. EACH GLASS PANE HAS TWO SURFACES, SO TYPICAL DOUBLE PANED UNITS HAVE FOUR SURFACES.

WHAT ARE THE USES?

INSULATED GLASS UNITS (IGUs) PREVENT HEAT LOSS, AS WELL AS OTHER ESTABLISHING OTHER BENEFITS, THROUGH GLASS DOORS, PANELS, WINDOWS, ETC.

LOW EMISSIVITY

LOW EMISSIVITY (LOW E) GLASS WAS CREATED TO MINIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF INFRARED & ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT THAT COMES THROUGH THE GLASS, WITHOUT MINIMIZING THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT THAT ENTERS. “LOW E” GLASS UNITS HAVE A MICROSCOPICALLY THIN COATING THAT IS TRANSPARENT & REFLECTS HEAT.

TEMPERED

TEMPERED (SAFETY) INSULATED GLASS, ARE GLASS UNITS THAT WILL BREAK INTO MANY SMALL PIECES. TYPICALLY, THIS TYPE OF GLASS IS REQUIRED WHEN INSTALLING UNITS IN BATHROOMS, ETC. THEY’RE AVAILABLE TO BE SUPPLIED WHEN CODE REQUIREMENTS ARE NEEDED TO BE MET.
